Pretty good! Was craving Tokyo Sando (RIP) which led me here. Their sandwiches are different but really tasty! I loved the vegetarian option (tofu)
My only real complaint is the awkwardly expected 25% tip for no service (there’s a sign to bus your own tables which is weird)
I was surprised by the very stylish and simple design of the store. Then I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich. The crispy cutlet goes perfectly with the perfectly toasted bread. The spicy sauce is also just the right amount of spiciness. This will become popular in Japan as well. thank you. Tanaka!
Had a pleasant experience at Tanaka. Being a fan of Japanese food, we couldn't wait to try the sandwiches. Overall tasty, but not quite up to Japanese standards. The bread was a bit soggy and the sandwiches felt a bit heavy. We had the spicy fish and the pork. Upon leaving, we felt pretty full and weighted down for several hours. We should have ordered one sandwich and split it and then focus on pastries for dessert. Will be returning to try other menu items and get a taste of everything. Staff was nice, atmosphere was open and clean and the restrooms were kept up. Overall a pleasant experience, but will order differently next time.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Tanaka, a delightful Japanese sandwich shop. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Chicken Sando combo meal. The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful, sandwiched between toasty bread that complemented the filling beautifully.
What truly stood out was the generous portion of crunchy French fries that accompanied the meal. Each bite was a delightful crunch of golden perfection. The combination of the Chicken Sando and fries was a match made in culinary heaven.
Aside from the food, I was equally impressed with the atmosphere. The place was immaculately clean and had a soothing ambiance, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal.
And let's not forget the baked goods selection! It was a pleasant surprise to find such tasty treats on offer. I couldn't resist trying some of their baked goods after my meal, and they did not disappoint. The flavors were exquisite, and it was evident that they put as much care into their baked goods as they did into their sandwiches.
Overall, my experience at Tanaka was fantastic. The Chicken Sando combo meal, the clean and inviting atmosphere, and the scrumptious baked goods selection all combined to make it a memorable visit. I'll definitely be returning for more.
I feel bad writing this but I found hair in my first EVER sandwich from here. Quite disappointed.
Additionally, when you ask for spicy prepare to get your nose ravaged. This is a wasabi sort of spice in which the spice hits your nose and not your tongue. I wish I had known that ahead of time. Ask for clarification if you're unsure. Wasabi to me is not spicy in the sense that I'm used to. It just irritates my nose. The worse type of spice out there in all honesty. Harder to tolerate.
The tea and tomato basil soup were decent! I don't understand the type personally!
If you like pork or Chicken katsu this is the place for you. We got three different mains. Spicy chicken katsu sandwich with dirty fries, regular chicken katsu with fries, and the bacon egg breakfast sandwich with a 6 piece of katsu nuggets. All the chicken was very good but the sandwiches to get the breading a little wet so you do lose the crisp. However, the nuggets were excellent, nice and crispy. The spicy chicken wasn't that spicy, perfect for mild spice lovers. But over all the flavors were good. The egg salad on the regular sandwich was very good. I recommend getting the regular fries over the dirty just because the fries stay crispy. However, the dirty fries did have a delicious Japanese curry sauce smothered all over them.
Super tasty spicy chicken katsu sandwich (bottom on pic). The loaded fries were okay, but I thought the curry sauce was a bit much on it. The regular fries are excellent and come with a great yellow curry sauce for dipping. A bit pricey overall but not too bad.
Japanese Sandos are something that we always try if they are on a menu and with Tanakas focus on them we had high expectations. I will say that while some were definitely better than others, not a single one was bad. We also enjoyed the wide variety and the logo/shirt design. Next time we go we will definitely be focused on the chicken, egg salad, and egg and sausage sandos. Bread was delightful and fluffy throughout and food was flavorful and moist. No complaints!
